Rediscovering Joy – Aigerim’s Journey
My son had been non-verbal and extremely difficult to manage in public spaces. Going to the store or the mall was always a nightmare because of his tantrums, fear of crowds, and lack of awareness about his surroundings. For the longest time, I feared we would never have a normal outing again.
Three weeks into treatment, everything changed. During one trip to the mall, he calmly walked beside me. When we passed by a store that sold sweets, I braced myself for a tantrum, but instead, he simply smiled and continued walking. It was the first time in years I didn’t feel overwhelmed in public. His ability to follow instructions improved significantly. He’s also beginning to understand colors, something he’d struggled with before. One day, as we were walking, he stopped at a red light and said, ‘It’s time to go home now, Mom.’ He’s becoming more aware of his environment and gaining a level of independence I never thought possible. These moments have given me a newfound sense of hope for his future.
